Capital Boulevard and the Wake Forest commute
Wake Forest sits off US 1, which is called Capital Boulevard in northern Wake County, and NC 96 and NC 98 also run through the area. For most Wake Forest drivers the daily trip to Raleigh is down Capital Boulevard toward I-540 and the I-440 Beltline. It is a busy road with trucks and stoplights, and stones thrown at the windshield are part of it. A chip picked up on US 1 in the morning can be a crack by the time the car has sat in the sun all day and had the air conditioning blasting on the drive home.
Wake Forest has a long history too. Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary began holding classes in 1950 on the original campus of Wake Forest University, which started out as the Wake Forest Manual Labor Institute, later Wake Forest College. The older streets near the historic centre and the campus can mean on-street parking and tight driveways, so tell us where the car will be and we will plan for it.
What happens at the visit
- Before: Impex checks the windshield against your VIN, so the part matches your trim: rain sensor, heated area, camera bracket and tint band.
- At the car: the damaged windshield is cut out and the new one bonded in with urethane. Impex says the job takes about one hour plus a short curing period, and most cars are back on the road within two hours.
- Calibration: on cars with a forward camera, Impex calibrates on site after the replacement, static or dynamic as the vehicle requires. Impex puts it at 30 minutes to 2 hours.
- After: no car wash and no slammed doors for 24 hours.
A dynamic calibration is done by driving at a steady speed on a clear, well-marked road; the stretch of US 1 between Wake Forest and I-540 outside rush hour can suit. More detail is on ADAS calibration in Raleigh and the full replacement process on windshield replacement in Raleigh.

Weather and the mobile visit
A driveway or garage is the ideal place for the work. The glass and the frame need to be dry for the adhesive, so on a rainy day a garage or carport lets the job go ahead; otherwise we will move the time. The Auto Glass Safety Council notes that how long a car must stand after a new windshield varies with the adhesive and the weather, so the technician gives you the time on the day. See mobile windshield replacement for what the visit needs.
Insurance and your choice of shop
A windshield in North Carolina is normally a comprehensive claim, paid less your deductible; the state has no zero-deductible glass law, though some policies include full glass coverage. Under G.S. 58-3-180 you choose who replaces the windshield, and the insurer pays the same either way. Impex works with all major insurance providers. See insurance and claims.
Rolesville and the rest of northern Wake
Neighbouring Rolesville, on US 401 in northeastern Wake County, is covered on our Knightdale, Wendell and Rolesville page. For chips, see windshield repair in Raleigh, and for door and rear glass, car window repair. All the towns we cover are on the Raleigh service areas page.

Questions people ask
Do you come to Wake Forest for windshield replacement?
Yes. Impex’s mobile service covers Wake Forest, and the windshield is replaced at your home, work or wherever the car is parked.
Will my lane keeping work after a new windshield?
It should, once the forward camera has been calibrated. Impex calibrates on site after the replacement. If you notice unusual warnings afterwards, contact us so it can be checked.
Can the work be done in the rain?
Only under cover, such as a garage or carport. Otherwise we move the appointment, because the glass and frame need to be dry.
