Raleigh, part by part

Downtown and inside the Beltline

‘Inside the Beltline’ is the local name for central Raleigh: the area within I-440, the Raleigh Beltline, a 16.4-mile partial beltway around the centre of the city that is also called the Cliff Benson Beltline. Downtown streets mean parking decks and tight curbside spaces, so we usually work in a deck, in a private lot or at a driveway in the older neighbourhoods. A covered deck is also the place to book on a wet day.

Midtown and North Raleigh

North of the Beltline, US 1 runs up through the city as Capital Boulevard, and I-540 and the NC 540 toll road arc across the north. Most work here is in driveways and office lots. The long, fast stretches of I-540 are a common place to pick up a stone, and a good place for a dynamic camera calibration outside rush hour.

Brier Creek and the RDU side

The northwest of the city runs out toward Raleigh-Durham International Airport, which sits northwest of downtown along I-40. Brier Creek’s shopping centre and apartment lots, and the I-40 and I-540 interchanges, see a lot of commuter and airport traffic. If you park at work near the airport, we can often do the job there.

Southeast Raleigh

South and east of downtown, US 70 heads toward Garner, US 401 runs south toward Fuquay-Varina and I-40 runs on toward Clayton. NCDOT’s Complete 540 project is extending the Triangle Expressway across the south of Wake County toward Knightdale, with its first phase opened in September 2024 and the second scheduled for completion in 2028. Apartment communities are common here: check whether your complex allows work on vehicles before you book.

Garner is a suburb on Raleigh’s south side, and Interstate 40 passes its north and east sides. Wake Forest lies just north of Raleigh off US 1, which is Capital Boulevard in northern Wake County. Clayton is in western Johnston County, about 16 miles southeast of downtown Raleigh along I-40 and US 70. Knightdale sits east of the city on the Knightdale Bypass, where I-87, US 64 and US 264 run together, and I-87 carries on to Wendell. Rolesville is in northeastern Wake County on US 401.

The roads that break Raleigh windshields

Raleigh is served by I-40, I-87, I-440 and I-540 with the NC 540 toll road, by US 1, US 64, US 70, US 264 and US 401, and by NC 50, NC 54 and NC 98. I-87 runs 12.9 miles between Raleigh and Wendell, mostly as the Knightdale Bypass. Truck traffic, construction zones and gravel loads are what put stones into windshields. North Carolina law, G.S. 20-116(g), requires trucks over 7,500 pounds that carry rock, gravel or stone to keep the load six inches below the walls and securely covered, because loose stone is a road hazard.

What a mobile visit needs, wherever you are

  • A level, firm spot with room to open both front doors fully.
  • Dry glass: a garage, carport or covered deck if rain is due.
  • Permission, where the lot is private: an office park, an apartment complex or a shopping centre.
  • The vehicle’s year, make, model and VIN, so Impex can confirm the glass by VIN-based verification before the visit.

Tell us the part of Raleigh or the town when you call, and whether the car will be at home or at work. That is usually enough for us to plan the visit, check the parking and the cover, and say whether a calibration can be finished at that address.

Impex states mobile service throughout North Carolina. If your address is outside the towns listed here, call anyway and we will tell you how we can help.

Anywhere from Brier Creek to Clayton: call Impex Auto Glass and we will come to the car.
