Mobile windshield replacement in Raleigh is how Impex Auto Glass works in this city. Impex’s shops are in Greensboro and Charlotte; in Raleigh, Wake County and the towns around it, the technician and the glass come to the vehicle. That means no drive across town with a cracked windshield, no waiting room, and no second car to arrange. It also means the visit has a few needs of its own, which this page sets out so the job goes ahead on the day it is booked.

Impex describes its service as mobile throughout North Carolina, and its services page lists mobile and no-contact service options. Auto Glass Repair Raleigh is the Raleigh face of that mobile service. The same visit covers windshield repair, car windows, back glass and, for most vehicles, the camera calibration that follows a new windshield.

Where the mobile service comes in Raleigh
The work is done wherever the vehicle can safely stand still for a couple of hours with room around it. In Raleigh that usually means one of these:
- A home driveway or garage, from the older streets inside the I-440 Beltline to the subdivisions off I-540 in North Raleigh.
- A workplace lot, with the property manager’s permission where the lot is private. Downtown and Midtown office parking decks often have the overhead cover that makes rainy days workable.
- An apartment or condo parking space, where the complex allows work on vehicles. Some do not, so check the lease or ask the office first.
- A shopping centre or park and ride lot, only where the owner permits it.
We also come out to the towns around the city: windshield replacement in Garner, windshield replacement in Wake Forest, windshield repair in Clayton and auto glass in Knightdale, Wendell and Rolesville. The Raleigh service areas page has the full list.
What the technician needs at the car
- A level, firm spot. The glass is set into a fresh bead of adhesive and has to stay put while it cures, and a level car makes calibration more accurate. Impex’s own aftercare advice for ADAS vehicles mentions keeping the vehicle level and the tire pressure correct, because sensor alignment can be affected by ride height or angle.
- Room on both sides and at the front. Both front doors need to open fully, and the technician needs to walk around the front of the car with the glass.
- Dry glass and a dry opening. Urethane is applied to a clean, dry surface. A garage, carport or covered deck is the answer on a wet day.
- Access to the car. Keys, or someone there to open it, and the dash cleared of toll transponders, dash cameras, parking passes and phone mounts on the glass.
- Time. Impex says a windshield replacement takes about one hour plus a short curing period, and that most cars are back on the road within two hours. Calibration, if needed, can add 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Weather and mobile windshield replacement
Weather is the one thing that can move a mobile appointment. Rain on the glass or the frame gets in the way of the adhesive, and the Auto Glass Safety Council says the minimum time a car must stand still after an installation varies with the adhesive and the atmospheric conditions at the time. Temperature and humidity change how fast urethane cures, so a cold, damp morning can mean a longer wait before you drive than a dry afternoon.
If the forecast turns, we will talk to you about moving the work under cover or to another time. A garage at home, a carport, or a covered level of a parking deck lets most jobs go ahead in the rain. Wind matters too, because it blows dust onto a clean opening.
Mobile windshield replacement and ADAS calibration
Most newer vehicles have a forward camera at the top of the windshield, and I-CAR lists removing the windshield as an event that may require that camera to be aimed again. Impex performs ADAS calibration on site immediately after windshield replacement, and its technicians complete static and dynamic calibrations in one visit.
The two kinds have different needs. A dynamic calibration is done by driving the vehicle at or below a set speed for a set time or distance, and I-CAR notes it may need roads clear of rain and snow, without heavy traffic or tight curves. Raleigh’s wider roads usually allow it. A static calibration uses targets set at measured positions in front of the car, and the procedure needs level ground and space in front of the vehicle. Impex says its facilities are equipped with calibration equipment and manufacturer-specific technology. Whether your vehicle’s calibration can be finished at your address or needs a controlled space depends on the make, model and system, so tell us the vehicle when you book and we will say how yours will be handled. See ADAS calibration in Raleigh.
When a mobile visit is not the right choice
Mobile service fits most jobs, but not every one. These are the cases where we may suggest a different time or place:
- Steady rain with no cover available at the address.
- A steep driveway or a sloping street with no level spot nearby.
- A tight garage or a narrow parking space where the doors cannot be opened fully.
- A vehicle whose camera calibration needs static targets and a level, clear space that the address does not have.
- A private lot where the owner does not allow work on vehicles.
None of these is a reason to drive around with a broken windshield for long. If the glass is broken through or the crack is spreading across your view, call us and we will work out the quickest safe option. Often the fix is simple: a different parking spot at the same address, or an earlier time before the rain arrives.
How to book a mobile windshield replacement
- Call or send the form with the vehicle’s year, make and model, what is damaged and where the car will be.
- Have the VIN ready. Impex uses VIN-based verification to order the correct part for your vehicle.
- Tell us about insurance. If you are claiming, have your insurer’s name and your policy or claim number. Impex works with all major insurance providers.
- Agree the place and time. We confirm the address, parking and cover, and whether calibration is needed.
- On the day, the car stays put until the technician tells you it is ready to drive.
After the van leaves
For the first 24 hours after a new windshield, Impex advises not washing the car and not slamming the doors, and avoiding harsh bumps on the first day. If you notice unusual driver-assistance warnings, or the lane keeping or adaptive cruise behaves differently from before, contact us so the calibration can be checked; Impex’s own advice says the same. Once the technician has given you the time, the car is ready for normal driving.
Mobile glass and your insurance
Mobile service does not change how a claim works. In North Carolina a windshield is normally a comprehensive claim, paid less your deductible, and North Carolina has no zero-deductible glass law. Under G.S. 58-3-180 you choose the repair service, and the insurer pays the same amount wherever the work is done. Read insurance and claims for the steps, or windshield replacement in Raleigh for the job itself.

Questions people ask
Does mobile windshield replacement cost more?
Impex’s quotes are meant to be fully inclusive, with no hidden fees, upsells, delivery charges, fuel fees or disposal fees, so the price you are quoted covers coming to you.
Can you replace a windshield in the rain?
Not in the open. The glass and the frame have to be dry for the adhesive. Under a garage, carport or covered deck most jobs can go ahead; otherwise we move the appointment.
Can you do mobile windshield repair for a chip?
Yes. A chip repair is a shorter job than a replacement and is done at the car the same way. See windshield repair in Raleigh.
Do I need to be there?
Someone needs to give access to the car and hear the aftercare and the drive-away time. Impex lists no-contact service options, so ask when you book if you will not be at the car.
Can the camera be calibrated at my home?
It depends on the vehicle. Dynamic calibration is done by driving, while static calibration needs targets and a level, clear space. Impex calibrates on site after the replacement and will tell you how your vehicle will be handled.
